Hi V.M,

That’s such a great idea. I think the idea of leaving “a comment” seems a lot less daunting than “writing a review.” I’m going to try this!

Thanks for suggesting it!

They think of the book reviews they had to do at school. It’s different when Amazon asks for a review of something else. There are no connotations.
I’ve taken to asking for a comment instead of a review. This implies a sentence or two. I usually ask them to say if they liked the book or not, and what they liked or disliked about it.

Hi Mindy!

Thanks so much! Yes, I love this idea—and Little Free Libraries in general.

I’m a marshmallow too but hoping this motivates me to be braver!

I’m a bit of a marshmallow when it comes to asking for favors. The examples you gave of great ways to request a review or turn it into a celebration when you’re close to a certain number of reviews will be a huge help when I need them.

The Little Free Library idea is brilliant in so many ways, too! I didn’t realize they have an app.

Thanks so much, Angela! I thought that was great advice from Scott as well. I often joke that I’m going to have to write, “ask for a review!” on my hand because I rarely remember in the moment!

Happy writing!

I have definitely seen the social strategy of being close to a milestone number of reviews encourage readers to get the number to the milestone, and it’s definitely smart to ask someone to leave a review if they like the book. I sometimes forget to do this, and so it’s a good reminder. 🙂
