Hi Angela,

*whispers* I’ve read only parts of the book because my TBR pile is insane. 😉

Hi Ingmar,

Yes, “flow” is a great word for it. When our story has that type of flow, readers also feel a sense of narrative drive that helps push them along, turning pages through our story. Thanks for stopping by!

Swain’s book is one I only read about a year ago – can you believe it? Shame on me for waiting so long to catch up with a classic.

Thank you, Jami.

Hi Becca,

Oh yes, that’s a great observation! We often have a vague idea of what something means but not know how to apply the information, and scenes and sequels are a perfect example of that issue.

P.S. For anyone interested in more information, I wrote a companion post that goes more into how to better identify whether a passage we’ve written is a scene or a sequel:

I love this post, Jami. I think a lot of people have just enough knowledge of scene and sequel to think they know what it’s about but not know what to do with it. This is a great succinct explanation. Thanks for sharing!
