Thanks Becca! Yes, it can seem tricky at times, but it’s also a great way to reveal character in every passage. The better you know the character, the more likely you can get that voice on the page.

Everything with voice has to be filtered through the character’s perspective—their education level, experiences, where they live and have lived, personality, preferences and dislikes… So much contributes to voice, so knowing your character well is key.
