Almost twenty years ago, two young writers met in an online critique group, and by happenstance, chose one another’s story to critique. They supplied helpful feedback and words of encouragement, never suspecting this would kick off a powerful friendship, ten co-authored bestselling books, and two award-winning sites for writers.
Back in their critique group days, something else came about: a passion to lift others up. As struggling writers, Angela and Becca knew firsthand how hard it was to develop their abilities and stay optimistic as they wrote within an industry where nothing came easy. In helping each other, they discovered how important it was to offer support and share knowledge, and they turned their minds to how they might help others. This led to creating a resource that made it easier to brainstorm ways to show character emotion.
Since the moment they compiled their first list of body language, thoughts, and visceral sensations to show fear, they fell in love with creating useful things for writers. That first list led to another, a blog, a bestselling series, and a bootstrapped tech company.
Since their critique group days, they’ve become professional students of storytelling, psychology, and blending the real world with the fictional one. With each new discovery, they teach, blog, design helpful writing tools, and whip up handouts and worksheets to guide writers on how to deepen their fiction.
Whether it’s an article, book, tool, or tip sheet, these two strive to empower writers to grow into master storytellers so they can share their imagination with the world. Stories are powerful. Magic. They might seem like entertainment, but they also house ideas that nudge readers to think a little differently and imagine new possibilities. And when people can imagine something new and better, they can change…maybe themselves, maybe the world.
